For us the charm of Malawi, a small
country in south central Africa, were its people. Among the most friendly
and hospitable people we met anywhere in the world, they were especially
so in Blantyre. Above is a gathering of people who have come to the
shores of Lake Malawi (northwestern edge) to see what the fishermen have
caught this day.
We never knew who we would meet...and
at this bus stop, a man in a fancy jacket sang and danced for spare change.
All we could think of was..."Mr. Bojangles."
Up from the lake and in town, the
market spread under the shady trees. This was a scene repeated time
and again as we travelled through not only Africa...but also South America,
India, and Asia. The market was a central fixture in most towns we
visited.
